Beware of internet scams

Beware of internet scams. There are people whose full-time job is to scam. They do their research in order to scam you. Since it is hard to police the internet, they often get away with what they are doing.

One of the biggest scams is the SPAM SCAM. One of the best assets about many e-mail hosts is that they have a bulk mailbox. There is good reason for this. The bulk mailbox is designed to stop suspicious e-mail from getting to you. Suspicious e-mail will be sent to many people at once or may contain suspicious wording.

The reality of MANY if these e-mails is that they are poorly written, at best, e-mails originating from “boiler rooms” in distant countries. They are near impossible to locate. The message that they are sending you essentially says that they are in dire need of financial help and you should help them.

Here are some other scams.

Name-a-Star scams — No such thing as buying the name for a star-the International Astronomical Union names stars, and they are not selling names.

Fake charity scams — Reputable charities do not solicit online.

E-mails from sites that you trust asking you to “update” information.

Unsolicited bulk e-mail solicitation scams

E-mails asking for any kind of personal information AKA Phishing — Even if it seems to come from someone that you trust, these fraudulent e-mails prompt consumers to reveal social security numbers, bank account numbers and more. They will disguise themselves as a reputable company such as Citibank, Fleet, eBay, PayPal and AOL.
